Did Santa get you fine jewelry from BENARI JEWELERS this year? Our jewelry is all well-crafted, but as with all anything, it can be dulled by air pollutants, dust, perspiration, perfumes and other natural elements. With these tips, you can make sure your fine jewelry from top designers like David Yurman, John Hardy and GUCCI are always shining as bright as the day you unwrapped them under the tree.

benari provides free cleaning for your jewelry needs.

CLEANING SILVER JEWELRY

Sterling silver can be wiped down with the polishing cloth that came free with your designer purchase. Apply mild dish detergent diluted in water to a clean, cotton cloth. Rub the jewelry in one direction, avoiding circular motions.

For heavier tarnish, use warm water and mild soap to wash your silver jewelry. Use a clean, nub-free cotton or flannel cloth.

CLEANING GOLD AND PLATINUM JEWELRY

In a small bowl of warm water, add diluted dish detergent and soak your gold/platinum jewelry for 3-5 minutes. Use a clean, cotton cloth to clean your item, making sure to rinse your jewelry under warm running water to remove all of the diluted dish soap. Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Dry your jewelry completely before wearing again.

HOW TO AVOID DAMAGING GEMSTONES

All gemstones are susceptible to getting chipped or scratched. If you can avoid wearing rings or bracelets while performing manual labor, it is highly recommended in order to avoid sharp blows or excessive friction.

For most gemstones, it is best to clean using dishwashing soap and water. It should only be cleaned with a dry cotton cloth. Make sure to store all of your jewelry appropriately in the designer pouches that come complimentary with your purchase here at BENARI JEWELERS.

CLEANING JEWELRY WITH CRYSTALLINE GEMSTONES

Crystalline gemstones like amethyst, blue topaz, citrine and peridot attract oils and lotions which can dull the appearance of the stone. To clean, soak them in a bowl or water with a very small amount of gentle dish soap. You may use a soft baby’s toothbrush to scrub around and behind the stone. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a lint-free cloth.

For diamonds, rubies and sapphires set in gold or platinum, use a drop of ammonia in water to clean. Use this method for gold or platinum jewelry only. Please note that ammonia discolors organic gemstones and damages silver.

CLEANING PEARLS

Pearls should be kept away from perfumes, cosmetics, perspiration, chlorine, vinegar, ammonia and dirt. After wearing, gently wipe them with a slightly damp cloth.

Wash pearls with mild soap (no detergent) and soft cloth periodically. Rinse them in clean water and wrap in a thin, damp cotton towel to dry. Pearls require humidity, so store them in an environment that is not too dry to prevent cracking.

Cleaning Your Pearls at Home
